I feel like we've had a few weeks of "firsts" and there are so many things that I want to write down - just spending more time enjoying those things and less time writing, I guess!
Annalee got her 3rd tooth probably about 3 weeks ago, just before she turned 14 months. It's on top but not in the middle - just beside the middle on the left side of her mouth - pretty sure that's the third tooth Connor got, too. She's working on some others, and chomping on everything in sight. Well, if you actually read through that paragraph, I can get onto a few things that may be a tad more interesting...
First veggies from our garden! We picked our spinach leaves early because we like the taste of the baby leaves better, and our radishes were about as good as they were going to get...I think we are going to plant some more because they are very quick to grow and I learned that I needed to thin them earlier so that the actual veggie would grow more than the leaves...
Connor's "fingernails". I'm pretty certain that Connor's toolset gets the most playtime from both kids right now...the preferred toy, I suppose! Thanks Aunt SAS and Uncle Jay! By the way, I didn't really take pictures yet, but this gives you a sneak peek at our new chair!
I came downstairs after getting Annalee from nap one day and Connor was "working on the lawn mower". :)
Annalee just wants to be involved in whatever her brother is doing, as usual! This was one of the first times that she was standing, supporting her own weight.
Snack time! We eat all of our meals around the table, but Connor usually has his morning snack on-the-go if we are out and about, or while watching Sesame Street if we are home. Since Annalee is down to just one nap a day, she loves to partake in this morning snack, too! She is also down to nursing just once a day...a little bittersweet!
I did not take a picture, but we switched Annalee into a "big girl" carseat last weekend (finally!). She hasn't been weighed lately, but if I had to guess, she was over the 22 pound weight limit of our infant seat...whoops! I washed the cover (you know, to have it ready in case we need it again - don't worry, not anytime soon) and decided to throw the high chair cover in too, so we had our first family lunch using all four chairs at our table! Pretty sure that if Annalee had her choice, she would stay right there - but she doesn't. We need the high chair a while longer for my sanity. ;)
I went ahead and pulled the rest of the radishes out of the garden - we had some good advice that they would get bitter if left in the ground too long. Y'all, I don't think I have EVER liked radishes...but these are SO different than what you get at the store or (much worse) shredded in a bag of salad. Peppery taste and a delightful salad or roasted vegetable addition!
Here it is! 6/12/13 was Happy Month-iversary to our garden!
Our tomato and pepper seedlings have quadrupled in size and you can see the beautiful trellis Jonathan put up for our pea and bean plants...folks, we have 61 pea plants. I've never shelled peas in my life. Hoping for hundreds to shell and you are welcome on my front stoop anytime! Our watermelon plants (middle left) are looking good, and the squash and zucchini plants are huge, just waiting for the flowers to open up. Both tomato plants and one pepper plant are flowering and the tomato plant on the right has 7 little tomatoes growing (as of today) - YAY!
It looks like nothing in here but it's a lot of root vegetables - carrots doing well along the front, cukes in the third row and green onions and shallots in the back. Our spinach is on its way out (getting too hot), we have 3 lettuce plants that decided to grow through the heat, and the radishes are done. We will replant in those areas for the cooler fall weather, I'm excited for that, too! We are, unfortunately, battling some slugs and (they're ba-ack!) fire ants. I may have tried to drown them with the "jet stream" feature on our hose sprayer. Cruel and heartless? Maybe. A woman bitten one too many times while weeding? Definitely.
Annalee has been
a major pain in the behind a little difficult when it comes to meals lately. I know she is just "getting her bearings" and realizing that she can assert her independence, but wow. She is a food throwing, spoon grabbing, screaming, wild girl. Our meal times are very long as we are working toward asking for things, leaving things on the tray, letting mommy and daddy help, etc. etc. I am also doing what I hate (because I know how bad the clean up is) and letting her try things herself as much as I can. She did make it 2/3 of the way through this bowl of yogurt I gave her for her first real try with a spoon...
Connor, thankfully, was happily playing with play doh. He had to have his picture taken too, of course.

Happy Flag Day!
We had the kind of day that Jonathan and I enjoy most - zero plans, the whole family at home. We took a walk on a nice trail, did some grocery shopping, had leftovers for lunch, every single one of us took a nap, did some work around the house and lawn, and then used a coupon to go out to dinner!
The big "first" today was that Annalee started taking 3-4 steps! Jonathan and I have been sitting on the floor and passing her back and forth between us for a couple weeks now. She usually just dives toward whoever she is facing, but we had watched her take one step from whatever she was holding onto to one of us (or another piece of furniture), so we thought we would start trying our Connor-approved method. The funniest part is that Connor does not want to be left out, so he tries to help "catch" Annalee and cheers and kisses her! He also walks or jumps between us - ha! Anyway, Annalee is getting her balance and I'm sure I will have some walking pics or videos soon!
We picked a kid's meal that was Connor-friendly and split it between the kids...meaning that Annalee had her first fries...
She had no problem double fisting those babies and chomping them down with her gums!
Well, the last "first" is a little sad. We got home, played outside, watered the garden, and got the kids to bed. About 30 minutes after they were asleep, I heard Connor calling that his belly hurt. I ran up and asked him if he thought he needed to go to the bathroom and he said yes - so he tried for a while but nothing. I put him back to bed and went downstairs. We could hear him moving around some in his bed and I looked at Jonathan and said "Please Lord don't let him throw up, I don't know if I can handle that." (If you know me or have been reading this blog long enough, you know my great hatred for vomit.) It couldn't have been a minute later that I heard him cough and we both ran up the stairs as he started bawling. Yup. It was everywhere. I scooped him up and was trying to comfort him without spreading yuckies everywhere and got him into the bath while Jonathan (thankfully) changed over the bedsheets. It was bad enough that I have sheets, mattress protector, and pj's through the wash and in the dryer and comforter in the washer now. Poor guy, it really scared him. We don't think it was what he ate for dinner, just a little bug or something - there seems to be plenty going around. He has been sound asleep for almost 2 hours now so hopefully it was just that once, and we're praying that Annalee is okay too. So, we made it through our first instance of kid stomach-sickness and I'm sure that we will see many more (and possibly worse, yikes and yuck). Regardless, sweet Connor was snuggled up in clean jammies and blankets and believe me, it did not mar an otherwise great day! :)
