I started this post long ago. Jonathan's parents came to visit us in SEPTEMBER (2013), just after Connor's 3rd birthday. Here's a little of what we did!
The last of summer's tomatoes on our windowsill...we ate every last one!

Coloring...everything blue. He loves (and has loved for months) to tell people, "I love blue. Blue is my favorite!"
Annalee coloring with Grandpa. She still mostly loves to eat crayons, so it's nice to have an extra set of hands (and eyes) helping with the coloring process!

A little family birthday celebration. I made dairy and egg free chocolate muffins. They were a mild flop. Ha! Connor was excited to try it, but not to finish it.
Kelly, the kiddos, and Sarahann came into town to spend a little time with everyone (and Jay arrived a little later...Matthew was stuck at work). We decided to make a trip to the Lazy 5 Ranch. This is a privately owned "zoo" of sorts, where you can drive or take a wagon ride through and learn about all sorts of animals, and feed/see them up close! We had been wanting to take our kids for a while (its about an hour away) and it was the perfect opportunity to do it with family!
Excuse the side-view. There were some parts you could walk through before the wagon ride. Aren't Reagan and Annalee sweet in the stroller? They are only 4 months apart in age!

Connor got brave right away! There were SO many kinds of animals and they would walk (run/shove/jump) right up to the wagon and eat from your hand! I definitely had over 150 pictures from this trip.
There were some animals that you were not supposed to offer your hand to, but they would open their mouths and you'd just drop handfuls of food right in!
Others, you had to hold the bucket out and let them peck at the food...so you wouldn't have a finger pecked off. Hold on TIGHT or that bucket will be gone!
HA! Their up-close mouths were so funny and disgusting. Can't lie about that! There are only a few species (zebras, longhorns, etc.) that we could look at but not feed, because they either had both top and bottom teeth that could clamp down on you, or in the case of the longhorns, you may be gauged...yikes.
Ah. The favorite, by far. They have quite a family of giraffes that we learned a lot about. It was so fun to feed these HUGE creatures and the kids (and all of the rest of us) were in awe!
...and this one is for my sister...a "Bison" herself. :)
Hot, sweaty, tired, and definitely content.
There was a little more we hadn't seen on the walk-through...
...things that made us laugh...
...and then. We decided to drive through once more before heading out - if you pay for the wagon ride, you are also allowed to drive through as many times as you want that day (TOTALLY worth it!). The BEST part of driving was that the zebras (dangerous as they may be?) came right up to our windows!
We had learned that no two zebras have the same markings...they are beautiful!
Annalee fell asleep pretty quickly, but we let Connor move around a little and he was definitely as excited as the first time around!

Jonathan feared for his life when an ostrich tried to peck its way in. ;)
We had one last good view of the rhino - so cool.
Connor opened a few last birthday presents before people started to head back home. Thank you all for visiting us, what a fun time!
